If it becomes difficult for you to drive and you have no other option for transportation, our fleet of courtesy cars can help you get to the places you need to be. Whether its a trip to the doctors office or a ride to the grocery store, we provide door-to-door service throughout the entire county of Midland. Service is available Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Advance reservations are required and medical appointments receive top priority.
Wheelchair Accessible
Senior Services fleet of vehicles consist of three handicapped-converted mini-vans with manual ramps for wheelchairs, three four-door cars, and one large seven-passenger handicapped van with a hydraulic wheelchair lift. These vehicles are important because they allow Senior Services to transport seniors regardless of disability.
Trained Volunteer Drivers
The Transportation Program depends on approximately 55-60 volunteer drivers. Volunteer drivers receive extensive training that includes how to handle:
Emergency situations
Client falls
Bleeding emergencies from a dialysis client
Mobility with walkers, wheelchairs and Amigos
Each volunteer driver carries a cell phone and knows how and when to call 911.
Each driver also learns about memory loss and the effect it has on seniors. This is to prepare the drivers for transporting clients that attend Senior Services Adult Day Center.
Why the Need for Senior Transportation?
Without Senior Services Transportation many homebound seniors would not make every doctor or dialysis appointment. Not having transportation to and from their home could mean a move to an assisted living facility or nursing home.
If you need transportation services, please call Senior Services at 989-633-3700 to make your reservation. Service is available Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Advance reservations are required.
