We offer numerous ways to stay on top of your health each month with health education programs and an array of fitness classes, low-cost clinics and access to fitness equipment.
To see the latest schedule of health and fitness programs, please see our Calendar. For Evidence-Based Health programs see the Education and Enrichment Page.
Once a month, our Health Education Coordinator, an RN, BSN, comes to each Dining and Activity Center to teach a program on medical health-related issues. Past topics have included diabetes, sleep, brain health, osteoporosis, heart health and stroke.
- Blood Pressure Clinics: If you have ever been diagnosed as having either high or low blood pressure, it is important to regularly keep track. Monthly blood pressure screenings at a Center near you offer a convenient method to stay on top of this important indicator of your health. No appointment is necessary.
- Foot Care Clinics: In cooperation with MidMichigan Home Care, Senior Services provides the opportunity to have feet professionally cared for monthly at the Trailside Center. People with diabetes or on blood thinning medication must have an authorization form from their physician. Foot care clinics are extremely popular and typically have a waiting list, so call early to make an appointment 989-633-3700. Cost: Initial visit $25, Subsequent visits $20
- Dental Clinics: Dental Hygiene Health Services, a private non-profit operated by Linda McLaren, RDH, and Karen Pavlawk, RDH, come to our site twice a year with portable dental equipment to provide dental cleaning, fluoride varnish treatment, oral cancer assessment, and dental hygiene assessment and home care education. Cost is $77 for non-insured, or billable for those on Medicaid or private insurance.
- Flu Shot Clinics: Once a year in early Fall, Senior Services hosts flu shot clinics. It is recommended that everyone get vaccinated, but it is especially important for anyone over the age of 50. Clinics are conveniently offered at all six Dining and Activity Centers in the county and administered by experienced pharmacists. Please check the dates and times for the center of your choice. No appointments are taken; injections are given on a first come, first served basis. Have your Medicare Part B or other insurance card with you and present it at the time you receive your injection along with the name of your regular Doctor. Non-insurance payments will be accepted as cash only.
Senior Services offers many fitness classes including Zumba, Line Dancing, Bonesaver Exercise, Tai Chi, Low Impact Physical Activity, Fitness Rooms, Walking Tracks and more. Please see our Calendar for the latest schedule and locations.
